HOLLYWOOD—There were huge rumblings in the music industry today as Beyoncé unveiled news that Destiny’s Child, yes, the former girl group that put Beyoncé on the map would be reuniting for new material, “Love Songs” on January 29.
This is news that has shocked many, but not really. I just had a conversation with someone about the reunion of the trio on stage at the Super bowl since Beyoncé is performing at the half-time show.
The big question is just how long the trio has been working on music and how they were able to keep it under wraps from fans this long. Also big music news came Thursday from triple threat Justin Timberlake who hinted that a new album may be on the way for fans that have been eagerly waiting a follow-up to his 2006 smash Future Sex/Love Sounds.
Timberlake has been busy working on his movie career since then with roles in “The Social Network, “Bad Teacher” and “Friends with Benefits.” Some were beginning to speculate the musician would never record another album, but wedding bliss must have changed things. He released a series of tweets Thursday, January 10.
“Thursday, January 10th, 2013 at 9:01am PST…” was his first tweet hinting at a big event. He followed up that tweet with the following: To whom it may concern…I think I’M READY! #JT2013http://t.co/qdCDVTSR. The video depicts Timberlake walking towards the studio and discussing his love for music, in the final seconds of the clip he places headphones over his ears and walks to the microphone stating “I’m ready.”
It looks like indeed the pop superstar is unveiling new music and this is exciting news. With Beyoncé, Destiny’s Child and Lady Gaga releasing new material, it looks like 2013 may be one of the biggest years in music in a long time, and let’s face it its long overdue!
