LOS ANGELES—Project D.A.T.E will be providing tools for the deaf, hard of hearing, blind and low vision attendees to make the viewing Centre Theatre Group’s production of Queen and Ben Elton’s “We Will Rock You” better.
Centre Theatre Group’s “We Will Rock You” performance is a tribute to the band, Queen. The Centre Theatre Group describes the performance as a “thunderous roar of revolution with the blockbuster hits of the legendary Queen driving its epic story. In the future, computer-generated music reigns, live rock is outlawed, and conformity is brutally enforced. Until a pair of young renegades, Galileo and Scaramouche, dare to break free and search for a long-buried electric guitar. Before Another One Bites the Dust, you can be sure our heroes will find Somebody to Love.”
Shows have been available since July 15 at the Ahmanson Theatre at the MusicCenter in downtown Los Angeles, located on 135 N. Grand Avenue. The Centre Theatre Group has specially created themed drinks such as “The Bohemian Rhapsody” and “The Killer Queen.” Those who attend are encouraged to wear concert tees, download lighter apps and to bring their drinks to the lobby. The show will conclude on August 24.
According to the Center Theatre Group’s mission statement, they are ” Los Angeles’ preeminent non-profit theatre company. On [their] three stages – the Ahmanson Theatre, the Mark Taper Forum and the Kirk Douglas Theatre – [they] present the highest quality and broadest range of theatre: groundbreaking new works, explosive productions of the classics and hit Broadway plays and musicals.”
The Project Direct Access Theatre Experience (D.A.T.E.) is a specific service that provides ASL interpretation, open captioning, and an audio description. Vision access services include binoculars and hearing access services include telephones and assistive listening devices.
