VANCOUVER—”Glee” star Cory Monteith was found dead in a hotel room at the Fairmount Pacific Room Hotel in Vancouver, Canada on Saturday, July 13. He was 31.
According to local police, emergency personnel arrived to the scene around noon where paramedics pronounced Monteith dead. Reports indicate he had been dead for several hours when his body was discovered. Police have indicated that no foul play is suspected. His cause of death was not immediately apparent. An autopsy will be conducted on Monday, July 15.
Monteith reportedly had several people over in his hotel room on Friday night, but hotel surveillance video indicate he returned to his room early Saturday morning by himself.
“We are so saddened to confirm that the reports on the death of Cory Monteith are accurate,” said Monteith’s rep in a statement. “We are in shock and mourning this tragic loss.”
On March 31, Monteith checked himself into rehab for his continuous struggle with substance abuse. He had publicly spoken about his struggles, stating that he began using drugs at 13 and went into rehab by 19 after an intervention from his mother and friends.
“Cory was an exceptional talent and an even more exceptional person,” said “Glee” executive producers and Fox on Twitter. “He was a true joy to work with and we will all miss him tremendously. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones.”
Monteith was best known for his role on “Glee” as Finn Hudson alongside his girlfriend for over a year, 26-year-old Lea Michelle. He won a Teen Choice Award in 2011 for top actor in a comedy. The show’s cast also won a Screen Actor’s Guild Award for an ensemble in a comedy the year prior.
He was involved in three projects that are allegedly in post-production, one of them being the movie “All The Wrong Reasons,” also starring Kevin Zegers.
“I have no words! My heart is broken. Cory was not only a hell of a friend, he was one amazing man that I will hold close to my heart forever,” tweeted “Glee” cast member Dot-Marie Jones. “I am blessed to have worked with him and love him so much! My heart is with his family and our whole Glee family! I love you all!”
