SAN FRANCISCO—Racers and creatively-dressed revelers embraced the rain in San Francisco on Sunday, May 19 for the 108th running of the famous Bay to Breakers footrace. The rain began early Sunday, but eased up and made for a mostly dry race for the roughly 40,000 runners and walkers who signed up .
The 12-kilometer race kicked off at 8 a.m. near the Embarcadero District. Organizers of the event announced the winners as Gabriel Geay with a time of 35:01 and Caroline Rotich at 39:28.
The annual race starts near the Bay Bridge at the intersection of Main and Howard Streets. It snakes west across the city, passes through Golden Gate Park and comes to a close at Ocean Beach. While some runners run on the pavement, most show off colorful costumes as they walk along the streets of San Francisco.
