BEVERLY HILLS─Well start making your predictions as to who will be the big victory as awards season comes into full play. The nominees for the 2020 Golden Globe Awards were announced on Monday, December 9 and leading all contenders is the drama “Marriage Story” with a total of 6 nominations including Best Motion Picture – Drama. Other films followed close behind were “The Irishman” and “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” with five nominations apiece.

I would say I’m surprised by some of these nominations, but I’m not, this is the Hollywood Foreign Press and their nominations don’t always line up with the Screen Actors Guild or the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences. The one omission that stunned me the most was Robert De Niro not earning a Best Actor nomination.

I’m sure he’ll earn a SAG nomination and an Oscar nominee for his amazing performance in “The Irishman.” I also expected more love for “Bombshell,” but perhaps we’ll have to wait and see how audiences react to the movie once it hits theaters on December 20. Also worth pointing out, there was very little love for the upcoming musical “Cats” so that is not a good sign people.

When the SAG nominees are announced on Wednesday, we’ll have a clearer picture of exactly who frontrunners and contenders are this year. On the TV side of things “Chernobyl” and “The Crown” were big contenders with four nominations apiece. “Barry,” “Succession” and “Big Little Lies” also earned multiple nominations Monday morning.
