CALIFORNIA—On Saturday, May 22, a grassfire located between Windsor and Healdsburg, on the west side of US-101, was put out by the efforts of the Sonoma County Fire District. The fire was contained to five acres and lanes of the highway were shut down for several hours.
Sonoma County Firefighters responded to reports of smoke at 1:42 p.m. on 11910 Old Redwood Highway. Cal Fire officials told the San Francisco Chronicle that one home and three abandoned structures were burned down by the fire and no one was injured. A SIG ALERT was issued at 2:23 p.m. and the CHP shut down one southbound and two northbound lanes of the highway causing severe traffic jams until they were reopened at 3:47 p.m.
Officials stated that power lines were involved in the fire at 2:10 p.m. Sonoma County Division Chief and Fire Marshal, Cyndi Foreman told the SF Chronicle that, “more than 50 firefighters from multiple agencies, including Cal Fire, responded to the blaze.”
