SAN FRANCISCO—On Friday, April 19, the San Francisco Police Department announced that they seized over six kilos (about 13.5 pounds) of narcotics and made 13 arrests during a one-day law enforcement operation this week around United Nations Plaza and the San Francisco Public Library.
The operation, which occurred throughout Tuesday, April 16 was the latest large-scale enforcement operation that is part of the city’s Drug Market Agency Coordination Center (DMACC). Of the 13 arrests – five are suspected of possession for sales of narcotics. Other arrests were related to possession of controlled substances, arrest warrants, and stay-away orders.
The SFPD has been focusing enforcement around the library and seized almost four pounds of narcotics in that region during Tuesday’s operation.
Officers served a search warrant that was a result of an ongoing narcotics investigation. With the assistance of an SFPD K-9 unit, officers located and seized firearms, ammunition, and over nine pounds of narcotics, including fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine.
Tuesday’s operation included SFPD officers from the Narcotics Unit, Narcotics Drug Recognition Expert Team, Tenderloin Station Patrol/Violence Reduction Team, and Tenderloin Plainclothes Team.
The SFPD thanked the assistance from the San Franciso Sherriff’s Office and the Army National Guard who were instrumental in this operation.
The Mayor of San Francisco launched the DMACC in May 2023. The effort combines city, state, and federal resources to dismantle the drug markets in the Tenderloin and South of Market neighborhoods.
Since May 29, 2023, the SFPD has seized over 194 kilos of narcotics and made more than 3,000 arrests specifically related to drug activity in these neighborhoods.
