SAN FRANCISCO—A march to mark the one-year anniversary of the start of the Occupy Wall Street movement will take place on Monday, September 17 around 5pm, according to multiple reports.
Protesters were already gathering in San Francisco’s Financial District on the evening of Sunday, September 16 with hundreds more expected to arrive for the march that will begin in front of 555 California St. This was where the protesters held a rally early Monday morning to announce their plans.
The 5pm protest will not be the only demonstration being held in San Francisco on Monday. At around 12pm, demonstrators are expected to be at the San Francisco War Memorial Building located at 401 Van Ness St. to protest foreclosures on veterans and seniors. Then at 2pm a sit-in at Harvey Milk Plaza is scheduled to be hosted by LGBT and Castro District community members to protest the city’s sit-lie law that prohibits sitting or lying on public streets in San Francisco.
At 6pm, a debt burning and street festival will be held at California and Montgomery Streets in which people can bring their debt papers and burn them.
Service disruptions on Muni, the city’s public transport system, are expected to be minimal, if any, but the agency would monitor the protests throughout the day.
