SAN FRANCISCO— On Tuesday, September 11, 2012, Mayor Edwin M. Lee announced a statement on remembering and commemorating the tragic September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States.
“We will always honor and remember those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks on September 11th, and San Francisco joins all Americans in mourning on this day, the eleventh anniversary,” Mayor Lee said, “The world has forever changed since that day and working together with City agencies, law enforcement and community partners, San Francisco is stronger, better prepared for emergencies and more resilient than ever. We will continue to honor the memories of the first responders and victims who died on 9/11 by working together to keep our City safe.”
In agreement with the President Obama’s request, Mayor Lee has ordered flags on all City buildings and grounds to be displayed at half-staff on Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance, September 11, 2012. Coit Tower was lit red, white, and blue at dusk on Tuesday, September 11.
Also on September 11, 2012, San Francisco Fire Department held a September 11th Remembrance Ceremony at all 43 Fire Stations. Mayor Lee and Chief of San Francisco Fire Department Joanne M. Hayes-White participate in the ceremony at Station 7 at 2300 Folsom Street. The San Francisco public was invited to participate at their local Fire Station.
