SAN FRANCISCO—According to statistics, nearly three pedestrians are hit by vehicles every day in the Bay Area. Legislators are starting a new improvement project to make the streets safer for motorists and pedestrians alike.
Walk SF is an organization dedicated to making streets safer for pedestrians in the city. Those involved with the organization are focusing on the busiest streets in the area. The focus is now being turned to Jefferson Street where legislators want to widen the pedestrian walkways and improve the intersections.
Walk SF supervisor, Scott Weiner, is pushing for modifying some of the city codes and some of his adjustments include widening pedestrian walkways in the busier, more dangerous intersections of San Francisco and perhaps narrowing walkways in smaller, less popular areas. Weiner’s proposals may be going before the board for a vote next week.
