LOS ANGELES—The Los Angeles Dodgers are working on a trade with the Red Sox that would land two $100 million players in Dodger blue.
Thursday, the Boston Red Sox placed Adrian Gonzalez on waivers. Early Friday morning, news broke that the Dodgers claimed A-Gon from Boston, giving them 48 hours to negotiate a trade.
It was initially thought that the Red Sox would not trade Gonzalez, instead just wanted to gauge interest in the all-star first baseman. It was later revealed that the Dodgers had also won a waiver claim for former all-star pitcher Josh Beckett, also of the Red Sox.
The Dodgers and Red Sox have since been working on a blockbuster deal that would only land Beckett and Gonzalez in Los Angeles, but also Carl Crawford, who Boston paid a king’s ransom to get two offseasons ago, and Nick Punto. In return, the Dodgers would send James Loney and four prospects, including Dodgers’ #2 prospect Allen Webster, to beantown.

Although no official word has come from the league offices, the trade seems like it has happened. The source? Twitter, of course.
Nick Punto tweeted a picture of himself, Gonzalez, and Beckett on the Dodgers’ private plane, Gonzalez tweeted his goodbye to Red Sox Nation and his excitement to be in Los Angeles, and CBS baseball insider Jon Heyman tweeted that Gonzalez will be in the lineup tonight for the Dodgers.
