SAN FRANCISCO—Officers from the San Francisco Police Department have arrested a suspect in the death of a two year-old who was killed while in a crosswalk on August 15.
At around 10:30 p.m. the two year-old female child was in the crosswalk at Mission Street between 4th and 5th Streets when she was hit by a vehicle traveling eastbound on Mission Street.
Investigators from the SFPD uncovered evidence from the crime scene that led them to apprehend the aunt of the child, Lorysha Gage, 25, of San Francisco on Wednesday, August 20. The aunt was responsible for the child’s safety at the time of the collision and faces charges for felony child endangerment.
Gage attempted to cross the street against the crosswalk signal, and left the little girl in the middle of the crosswalk and she went to retrieve the child’s twin brother who was still on the sidewalk. At this time the child was hit by a vehicle traveling on Mission Street with the green light.
The aunt was booked at the San Francisco County jail, but no booking photo has been released as there are identification matter pending. Authorities are still investigating the case to locate the hit and run driver. Anyone with information is asked to call the police at (415) 575-4444.
