SAN FRANCISCO—Following the San Francisco Giants World Series Victory Wednesday night, the team’s third in five years, the celebration began throughout the city.
The party raged until well into the evening, becoming a violent in certain regions. In particular, police with riot gear were called to the city’s Mission District to break-up the revelry.
Though many celebrated legally, some took to breaking bottles, lighting fireworks, and starting bonfires in the streets, including a massive couch-burning on 19th Street and Mission Avenue.
Forty arrests were made, with two reported shootings and one stabbing. The gunshot wounds were not fatal, but the stabbing victim was taken to San Francisco General Hospital to be treated for serious wounds sustained.
The city will throw a celebratory parade in honor of the team, starting Friday, October 31 at noon on Steuart and Market Streets.
